Hurricane Katrina Relief Clothing Drive
January 2006

Fairview, New Jersey

The Croatian New Yorker Club, A community Alliance of Business People, recently held a clothing drive for victims of Hurricane Katrina in conjunction with Fr. Gio Belanich’s Croatian Relief Services, Fairview, N.J.

Croatian New Yorker Club volunteers relayed clothing pick-ups starting from the outer suburbs in Metro New York (eastern Long Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Westchester, etc.) and worked their way inbound to the five boroughs.

Fr. Gio had just been released from the hospital and despite his incapacitation, helped coordinate the drive. Several truckloads of clothing were collected. These clothes were packed and delivered to Louisiana with the focus on the Croatian communities of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.

The Croatian New Yorker Club raised funds for Croatian Relief Services with donations coming from as far away as Massachusetts and Ohio. Ed Kapusta of Poland, Ohio has been supporting this drive from afar.

The Croatian New Yorker Club wishes our Croatian people on the Gulf Coast success in their rebuilding efforts.
