Croatian New Yorker Club Picnic 2009

The Croatian New Yorker Club held its 21st Annual Picnic at Centerport Beach, at Centerport, Long Island on Sunday July 12th.  Weatherwise it was just a perfect day for  a picnic, and there was a good crowd turn out. Picnic goers got to enjoy swimming at the beach,  playing buce, listening to old time  Croatian accordion melodies played by Dominic Karcic, and catching up with old and new friends.

There was plenty of good food: grilled meats, corn on the cob, kobasi and sauerkraut,  blitva i krumpiri, salads, Little Neck clams from Great South Bay, sliced melons, and homemade Croatian pastries.   As ususal, no one went home hungry!

Young Clare Segota, working with her mother Maureen, used the classic American dessert recipe for making an American flag berry cake, and converted it  into  Croatian flag cake. Everyone was impressed by her creativity and ingenuity.

Organizing a picnic takes a lot of help and good workers!  Clara Sipic, Dan Pasaric, Emil Frankola, Dominic Karcic aptly manned the BBQ, Ana Latkovich, Maria Roderka, Lillian and Lou Raspolic-Carrara prepared the food, cooked the clams and corn, and Mike Angelich and Dan Pasaric trucked all the equipment supplies and food in and out of the park. Puno Hvala!

There was an abundance of Croatian Fraternal Union (CFU) membership literature at the picnic. It is hoped to organize a CFU Lodge on Long Island.
