Croatian New Yorker Club Christmas Party 2007
December 8, 2007

Members, friends,  and guests of the Croatian New Yorker Club - A Community Alliance of Business People had a very enjoyable time a the club's December 8th Christmas Party . The festivities were held at the Istria Sports Club in Astoria, Queens. Zlatko, the manager of the Istria Sports Club provided wonderful Istrian culinary delights including: prsut (proscuitto,) sir (cheese,)  hobotnica na leso (octopus,)  lignije ( fried squid - undoubtedly the best in New York City,) njoki (potato dumplings,)  teletine (veal stew,)  svinje (roast pork,) and blitva ( Swiss chard and potatoes.) Istrian home style cooking is very much at the forefront of popularity here in New York City, probably largely due to the PBS-TV cooking shows of Istrian native  Lidia Bastianich, and  recent features in the New York Times.

Liljana Vinkovic, form the Croatian Consulate Genereal joined us, and extended Christmas and New Years greetings on behalf of the Consulate.  Local authors Katarina Tepesh (Escape from Despair: A Croatian Family's Survival,)  and Janko Deur enlightened the party goers about their recently published books.

The success of the evening can be greatly attributed to the wonderful job Trustee Al Bozulic did in organizing the party. Hvala Al!
