Croatian American Society

Dear Fellow Croatians,

Our Croatian American Society is currently raising funds to build a cultural center for our community, a goal we have worked years towards. This project is estimated to cost approximately $750,000 to complete. Our land and the current building, which was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina, were donated to us a little over a year ago. The majority of our members are oyster fishermen, and most suffered horrific damage to their homes and boats as a result of Katrina. After working tirelessly to get back on their feet, they are currently contending with the yet-unknown effects of the BP oil spill, which has again wreaked havoc on businesses and lives. Despite these recent setbacks, the community has shown intense dedication to this center through hard work and fund-raising.

Croatians have played an important role in the development of the Plaquemines Parish and in the seafood industry in Southeast Louisiana, and it is now our aim to make the Croatian American Cultural Center a tribute to that heritage. It will be a meeting place that will continue to bring our community together, keeping us close and strong over the years to come.

We are selling cd's recorded by one of our members, MARO HIHAR. The proceeds from the sale of these cd's will go directly towards the building fund. The requested donation for each cd is $12. Our society is a non-profit organization and all donations above the value of the cd are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by the law.
